The essence of love is to put other people’s interests ahead of our own, doing what is best for them and serving them at their point of need. In this, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who willingly came and gave His life for us. Leading like Jesus flows from a heart that loves God, voluntarily giving our lives for the benefit of others. Jesus lived this out every day of His earthly life, as He made leadership choices based on love for God and others. What is motivating your choices? For whom are you laying down your life?
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.—1 John 3:16
